Business Analyst

Iowa Student Loan is looking for a business analyst that is a self-starter to write requirements and coordinate team tasks through development and deployment of new or updated business applications.

Job Responsibilities

The qualified candidate will:

  • Develop business and technical requirements through collaboration with various stakeholders and analysis of data, regulations, contracts, systems and processes.
  • Communicate with stakeholders and the development/deployment team via meetings, emails, test plans, business requirements and other project documents to facilitate definition, creation, validation and release of the software or project.
  • Plan, monitor and lead a project to completion while ensuring business needs and timelines are achieved.
  • Create project scope documents to outline project needs including tasks, process flows, data flows, impact statements and system changes to meet strategic initiatives.
  • Deliver products to production with a well-thought-out and validated plan designed to limit move and production issues.
  • Ensure requirements are met through scenario development and test plans including manual and automated tests.
  • Report to the Product Development Director and update him or her on the project status, implementation and the team’s ability to meet the project’s success criteria.
  • Verify that validation artifacts and other software development process controls are produced/validated and retained in the proper repositories or project tracking software.
  • Perform second tier support, in collaboration with software development teams, when issues are escalated by the business units and first tier support.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability through an ability to learn new systems and processes, and through interaction with many different technical and business units.
  • Advance department processes through promotion of change and efficiencies.
  • Complete analysis and project management tasks on non-software projects as needed.


The qualified candidate will:

  • Have a strong analytical mind to critically and quickly evaluate information from multiple sources, reconcile conflicting information and translate high-level information into details.
  • Think creatively to effectively and efficiently identify requirements to solve complex problems.
  • Express ideas clearly and accurately via written and verbal communications as appropriate for the target audience.
  • Have strong technical aptitude and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Be comfortable working within a project team environment as well as independently.


The qualified candidate must have:

  • Technical or business bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of education and work experience.
  • Working knowledge of software development life cycles and/or strong knowledge of Iowa Student Loan clients and customers or business processes.

Physical Activities/Working Conditions

The position requires the employee to:

  • Sit frequently.
  • Use office equipment including personal computer, keyboard and mouse.
  • Interact frequently with others in person, over the phone, and via email and other devices.
  • Occasionally work variable hours required to meet deadlines.
