Scholarships and Programs

To increase awareness and use of the online tools among their intended audiences and further our mission, we offer several award programs. Although participants may first open a tool to try to earn a scholarship or other award, many find that they gain pertinent information that provides even better financial returns.

Save Now, Save Later: College Savings Plan Parent Giveaway

In its fourth year, the 2017 Save Now, Save Later: College Savings Plan Parent Giveaway was expanded to parents and guardians of students in grades six through 12. In addition, the required component was changed to the new Parent Handbook module to provide more appropriate information to the expanded audience.

The 2017 program ran Sept. 5 through Oct. 23.

Iowa Financial Know-How Challenge: Senior Scholarship

More than 4,650 Iowa high school seniors registered for the 2018–2019 Iowa Financial Know-How Challenge: Senior Scholarship, which awards $2,000 scholarships to each of 30 recipients each year. To qualify, students must complete Student Loan Game Plan, ROCI Reality Check and a related assessment. Each recipient's high school also receives a corresponding award. The 2018–2019 recipients were recognized by Gov. Kim Reynolds, Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg and Iowa Student Loan board members and executives during an award ceremony in April 2019.

Come 2 Iowa Senior Scholarship

The Come 2 Iowa Senior Scholarship awards $1,000 college scholarships to each of five high school seniors from Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota or Wisconsin intending to attend college in Iowa the following fall. In 2018, more than 1,000 students entered, and five entries were selected through a random drawing.

The 2019 program will run in the spring of 2019.

College Funding Forecaster Giveaway

Ten Iowa high school seniors were each awarded a $1,000 college scholarship after their names were drawn as winners in the College Funding Forecaster Giveaway that ran March 18–April 30, 2019. To qualify, Iowa high school seniors or their parents or guardians entered a random drawing after completing College Funding Forecaster to estimate total college cost over four years. More than 750 entries were received for the 2019 program.

The 2020 Giveaway will run in the spring of 2020.
